The San Juan Capistrano Docent Society

The SJC Docent Society is a group of dedicated volunteers with 1-38 years of experience sharing San Juan Capistrano history with students and visitors to our community.

Their mission is to serve the numerous historic venues in our community, with the Blas Aguilar Adobe Museum as their base and curator Domingo Belardes, direct descendant of Blas Aguilar, as their highly respected partner. They also seek to educate members and visitors about other aspects of California’s unique history through special speakers, programs, and field trips.

At their monthly meetings on the Adobe grounds, they host speakers with expertise in various aspects of SJC history and culture through our city’s nearly 250-year history. They also conduct tours of the historic 1794 Blas Aguilar Adobe Museum and grounds weekly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11-3 and by appointment. For appointments, contact: Kerry Ferguson at kkferg2588@gmail.com or 949-276-6932.

The group is working with CUSD to develop a History Lab for interested students and other special programs that will be inaugurated in Fall 2021.

Importantly, the SJC Docent Society works cooperatively with other local historic groups to coordinate efforts.

Dues are $25 per year, and new members are most welcome. To join, contact Ana Castro at onegavilanes@yahoo.com or 909-592-3446.
